I am honored to be presenting at the Illinois Council for the Social Studies’ Fall 2025 Conference, themed “United We Teach: The Social Studies Classroom as a Laboratory for Civic Trust.”
At a moment when immigration policies are affecting thousands of lives inside and outside of classrooms, this presentation offers educators a resource for exploring civic trust and democracy without placing the burden of disclosure on their own students. It is both a personal story and a teaching tool invites us to reimagine the classroom as a space where lived experiences fuel civic learning, empathy, and critical dialogue.
